How Often Should Windows Be Cleaned?

Cleaning is an essential part of window maintenance. It helps keep your widows functional and a great source of natural lighting and ventilation. If you’re wondering how often you should schedule window cleaning, these tips from Homecraft Inc. should help.

Monthly Window Cleaning

It’s ideal to be proactive when it comes to taking care of your windows. Doing so can prevent particles such as dust, pollen and dirt from accumulating on window surfaces and damaging the material itself. It also reduces the risk of mold growth, which can cause your window frames to deteriorate and potentially affect other parts of your home. We strongly recommend having your windows cleaned every month, especially if you live in an area where pollen and dust buildup are a common concern.

How to Properly Clean Your Windows

Here are some tips that you can follow to properly clean your windows:

  • Don’t use abrasive brushes or cleaners that can damage your window frames, finish and glass surface. Ideally, you should use a soft, lint-free cloth to prevent damaging the surface. When it comes to creating a cleaning solution, you can mix water and a mild dishwashing liquid, and put it into a spray bottle for easy application on surfaces.
  • Clean your windows during a calm, cloudy day. Don’t do it under hot or rainy weather so that the cleaning solution won’t dry quickly and leave marks or streaks on the glass surface.
  • Wipe your windows from side to side, working your way from the top to the bottom. Some homeowners are used to wiping in a circular motion, but this can create static electricity that attracts contaminants and particles to the window surface.
