5 Key Questions to Ask Your Siding Contractor

Siding makes up a significant part of your home’s exterior. It is vital to maintaining good curb appeal and keeping your indoor spaces comfortable. When the time comes to replace it, you must work with a reputable contractor to make the most of your investment. One thing that can help you determine if you’ve found the right team for your project is to ask the right questions.

Here are five things you should ask your prospective siding contractor.

1. Are You Licensed?

You should only hire home improvement contractors licensed to work in your area. Insured siding professionals are knowledgeable about local building codes and will adhere to these regulations. They also know if permits are necessary for your project and where to obtain these documents.

2. What Type of Insurance Do You Have?

Ask if your potential siding contractor has workers’ compensation and general liability insurance. It will protect you if something wrong happens during construction. For instance, when a worker gets injured while on the job, your contractor’s insurance will cover the hospital bills. If other areas of your home develop damage during the construction, their insurance will cover repair costs.

3. Where Is Your Physical Office?

If the contractor you’re speaking with doesn’t have a physical office, take it as a red flag. Many unreliable companies or storm chasers are not from your town or state and don’t have a local office. It could be hard to reach them when you discover issues after your project.

4. Which Siding Materials Do You Specialize In?

One of the best ways to ensure proper installation is to hire a contractor specializing in your preferred siding material. If you are interested in vinyl siding, you must find a company that has been installing this option for years.

5. Can You Provide References?

A reliable siding contractor will not hesitate to provide references. Talk to at least three of their previous clients and ask if they were happy with the services they received. After getting in touch with these individuals, you’ll know more about your prospective contractor and if they are ideal for your project.
