Gutters

3 Typical Gutter Problems and Their Solutions

Maintaining your gutters is one of the most important things you can do to prevent water from damaging your home. Your gutters have the important task of channeling water away from your foundation, thereby protecting the structural integrity of your house. However, gutter clogs, holes, and sags can make this difficult. Here are some common gutter problems and their solutions:

Gutter Clogs

Clogged gutters are the most common gutter problem. When you leave your gutters unattended, dirt, debris, and leaves will begin to accumulate in the system. This debris then forms a clog, causing water to pool in your gutters. Since the weight of your gutters has increased, they will eventually sag and pull away from the fascia. When it rains, they can also overflow and cause water damage to your interior. Prevent this by having your gutters cleaned at least once a year. You can also install our gutter protection system to prevent leaves and debris from entering your gutters in the first place.

Holes and Leaks

Leaks and holes can form in your gutters because of wear and tear. You can correct leaky gutter joints with caulk, and you can patch very small holes using gutter sealant. Remember, however, that this is a short-term fix, particularly if you have an old gutter system. You need to call a gutter professional like us for an inspection. We can determine if it’s more cost-effective to repair or replace your gutter system. If a replacement is in order, we can install high-quality seamless gutters for your home. Since they don’t have seams, you can be sure that there will be no leaks.

Improperly Pitched Gutters

Improperly pitched gutters can cause water to pool in your gutters and overflow, even if there are no gutter clogs. Your gutters require at least a quarter inch of slope every 10 feet if you want the water to flow properly to your downspout. While some homeowners prefer to correct the problem themselves, we recommend staying off the ladder. It’s better to hire a professional because they can calculate the correct pitch and quickly solve the problem.
